Adoption Procedure
If you are wondering what to expect when trying to adopt a pet from New Beginnings it will go something like this:
- You can either email us, call us or just fill out an adoption application on line to start the process. Filling out an adoption application is the first requirement.
- After we receive your application it will be processed and your references checked. The most important reference you can provide is your veterinarian.
- Then you will receive an email asking you to tell us the phone number and the best time of day for us to have a chat. This is to discuss any question either of us may have.
- We will then call you for that chat.
- Then we will call you again in a day or so to make an appointment to have one our reps come to your home for a "home check". This is to verify that you are who you say you are.
- On occasion the pet you are desiring to adopt may be brought along for this visit. This gives you and the pet a chance to interact and see if you are meeting each others expectations. The pet will NEVER be left with you on this visit. We want you to sleep on it.
- If you have other pets we will also want to have them meet the new pet prior to placement. For dogs, this is usually best to arrange a neutral area for both (not your home - but a convenient park or other place). Doing this will not cause your pet to feel territorial toward the new pet.
- For approved applicants the dog/cat will be brought to your home for the placement.
- You will be asked to sign an adoption contract. You may ask to preview this contract prior by emailing us.
- You will be asked to pay the adoption fee at the time the pet is left with you.
- We would then hope to have a few follow up conversations with you during the new pets transition into your life and home.
The time that all this might take can vary. It will depend on many factors.
For the average adoption process you can expect anywhere from one week to three weeks.
